What you will do:The Department of the County Attorney is seeking a professional with a track record of success as a legal counsel. As the Assistant County Attorney, you will provide expert opinion to A Government Entity stakeholders. Your advisory duties create preventative measures ensuring compliance and protection by law. As a subject matter expert, you will appear before the District and Circuit Court of A Government Entity to protect the County's interests.
Essential Duties:
- Resolve legal issues to ensure County complies with federal, state, and local laws. Negotiate to resolve disputes, conflicts, and lawsuits.
- Lead hearings and proceedings. Litigate cases before District, Circuit, and Appellate Courts of Maryland.
- Draft, negotiate, and review contracts, legislation, and legal documents. Protect the legal interests of the County with preventative and remedial measures.
- Mentor legal staff and develop training and legal educational programs.
- Foster collaboration and provide learning opportunities. Facilitate a supportive work environment.
- Independently ensure all work is complete and timely to achieve department goals. Review work of others to ensure that organizational standards are met.

Education and Experience:
- Juris doctorate degree and admission to practice law in the state of Maryland
- Three or more years of related experience
- A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Licenses:
Member in good standing of the of Maryland State Bar
