The Rundown
A Leading Sports Marketing & Media Company is looking for an Assistant General Counsel to join our team in Berwyn, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, or Dallas

The person in this role will work with the Chief Legal Officer and other senior executives to develop and implement corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives and compliance functions, advise on company strategies and their implementation, assist in managing the legal function, monitor and update the company's legal and regulatory compliance needs and oversee the work of outside counsel. The Assistant General Counsel is directly involved in complex business transactions, negotiating critical contracts, litigation, real estate, employment and intellectual property matters and providing legal support for mergers and acquisitions, including transition and integration efforts, and financing transactions.

What You'll Accomplish
  • Draft, analyze, review, and negotiate agreements with professional sports teams, conferences and leagues, regional sports networks, university athletic programs, state high school athletic organizations, venues and events (e.g., bowl games), as well as agreements with sponsors, on-air talent, and others
  • Manage, coach & develop members of the legal team
  • Provide legal advice and support in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic investments
  • Anticipate legal and contract/deal issues, and design and execute strategies to remediate risk to Playfly and its clients
  • Support human resources, finance and other groups within the Company
  • Identify, research and analyze relevant federal, state and local requirements and translate into business solutions and processes
  • Assist Chief Legal Officer with dispute resolution and litigation oversight including drafting legal pleadings, managing discovery, and negotiating settlements.
  • Assist with oversight of risk management, including oversight of our insurance program
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's policies and procedures
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Outstanding written and oral business communication skills
  • Excellent drafting and negotiating skills
  • Experience with consumer data privacy/security issues, technology transactions (including software as a service (SaaS) agreements), intellectual property and employment law a plus
  • Familiar with a wide variety of general corporate and transactional work
  • Creative problem-solving skills to assist in meeting business needs and seizing new opportunities, while mitigating risk and managing key relationships
  • Strong commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others, and cooperatively with senior and executive-level staff
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task multiple priorities
  • JD degree, admitted to practice law in the state in which located (must have evidence of good standing)
