Summary:
In this role, you will work within a driven and collaborative Legal team and with various other company representatives and outside counsel to provide legal and strategic support across the entire company with a focus on representing the company's interests in litigation across North America. This position reports directly to and works closely with the Head of Litigation, and you will have regular interactions with the General Counsel and other senior leaders within the business. You will work on a wide variety of litigations, including antitrust, product liability, commercial disputes, and employment matters, assist in fact-building investigations, and gain a deep understanding of the numerous legal issues affecting the pharmaceutical industry. THIS POSITION IS HYBRID: 3 DAYS IN OFFICE; 2 DAYS REMOTE

The position will feature the following primary responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Head of Litigation to strategically manage litigations across North America, and provide direction to outside counsel.
  • Routinely review and improve work product drafted by outside counsel.
  • Routinely provide advice to business units and senior leadership concerning litigations and pre-litigation commercial disputes.
  • Serve as corporate representative for various litigation proceedings.
  • Respond to demand letters received from plaintiffs' counsel.
  • Assist in negotiating fee arrangements, reviewing bills and managing legal budgets.
  • Manage responses to third party subpoenas.
  • Participate in internal investigations.
  • Support HR department on various matters and employing best employment practices.
  • Work with internal team on insurance coverage issues.
  • Create, update and manage litigation and investigations status reports.
  • Work with the Head of Litigation and other members of the Legal Department on other miscellaneous legal projects.

Qualifications:
  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with high academic achievement is required.
  • Admission to practice in at least one state with ability to secure New Jersey In-House certification.
  • Minimum of at least 6-10 years of licensed practice is required.
  • Complex commercial litigation experience is required.
  • Experience in an in-house pharmaceuticals and/or life sciences organization and/or experience representing clients in the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry at a large firm will be considered a plus factor.
  • Ability to travel within the US, and occasionally internationally, will be required.
  • At least some experience with employment law is preferred
  • Must be comfortable working in a fluid environment. Candidates must be eager to delve into new areas as needed and undertake projects as needed.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently. At the same time, it is imperative that he or she is a consummate team player.
  • Will work closely with other members of the Legal Department, Compliance, Human Resources and various commercial functions as well as outside counsel, e-discovery vendors and other external advisors.
  • Must have outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to think analytically to understand complex, ambiguous problems or issues and articulate solutions/conclusions clearly and concisely. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals of varying professional, educational and cultural backgrounds and be able to make complex legal concepts accessible to all audiences.
  • Must be a business minded professional who is responsive to client needs and bring a clear pragmatic, solution driven sensibility coupled with sound judgment.
  • Must be hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves professional with a “can-do” attitude.
