What You Can Expect
As the Associate General Counsel in Chicago, IL or Houston, Texas you will be responsible for providing legal support together with a team of legal professionals to ENGIE's Energy Solutions Global Business Unit (ES-GBU) in connection with its distributed solar and storage business with provides solar, solar plus storage, and standalone storage solutions for C&I behind-the-meter, Muni-CoOp and community solar customers. You will also lead a team of legal professionals doing the same. This includes, support for projects from the initial prospecting stage through commercial operation and end-of-life repowering, retirement or transfer of such projects.

Every day, you will report to the Vice President & General Counsel to support for project and platform mergers & acquisitions (M&A), project financing matters (including tax equity and debt financing and cash equity spelldown); assistance in overall compliance with federal state and/or local laws and regulations; and such other transactional and contractual matters for ENGIE North America and it's subsidiaries as may be required from time to time.

What You'll Bring
  • You must hold a Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • You must be licensed to practice law in at least one state in the United States (preferably Texas or Chicago)
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of combined legal experience in the United States with a law firm or major corporate legal department; practice with a top-tier firm and combination of outside counsel and prior in-house experience with both energy transactional, solar, and storage project development and finance experience
  • Deep expertise in wholesale energy markets with strong communication skills is needed to perform this role
  • Ability to analyze complex business situations, taking into account business drivers, to develop risk mitigation recommendations in a commercially minded manner
  • Able to clearly explain risks, advise on both commercial and associated legal consequences and exercise sound judgement on difficult issues
  • Ability to build and manage relationships and work in a fast-paced energy trading environment
