Your Impact:
As Counsel, Privacy Technology, you will provide legal support to existing and new self-regulatory programs for businesses through which we provide independent accountability and data privacy transparency. You will serve as the legal technology lead, researching and implementing solutions for issues involving digital network forensics, artificial intelligence, data collection, and analysis as well as consulting with other departments, as needed, regarding matters including data privacy and security, digital forensics, and digital advertising.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review and respond to consumer privacy and security complaints
  • Monitor websites and mobile apps to assess compliance with the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) Principles, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and other applicable laws and standards
  • Provide guidance and support on technology and security legal issues, as needed, by programs and the organization
  • Review and assess participant certification responses against program requirements for the Digital Advertising Accountability Program (DAAP), Cross Border Privacy Rules (CBPR) program, and other programs, as applicable.
  • Assist with analysis and reporting of trends in type and quality of consumer complaints received
  • Monitor websites and mobile apps for the presence of interest-based advertising, examining such advertisements for compliance with the disclosures required by DAA Principles
  • Collaborate with team members in researching any non-compliant ads, apps, and websites, analyze application of the DAA Principles to the practices under review
  • Initiate compliance remediation and explain application of the DAA Principles to digital advertising companies and their counsel
  • Draft correspondence to digital advertisers, case decisions, and public reports
  • Analyze data privacy and AI policy and trends at the state, federal, and international levels

What you will bring:
Must Have:
  • JD with 3+ years of experience specifically focused on data privacy, adtech, security, current and emerging technology, data governance
  • Excellent legal writing skills and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of business practices behind online advertising, ad technology, self-regulatory standards, political advertising law, and/or administrative law
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Membership in the bar of a relevant jurisdiction
  • Strong Office 365 and other similar skills

Let us know if you have:
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001 and/or ISO 27701
  • Technical expertise in network technology, computer components, gaming, programming, coding, TCP/IP and/or device “jailbreaking” and similar techniques
  • Prior experience working in data privacy, digital advertising, or data security
  • CIPP (or equivalent) certification
  • Major law firm, inhouse or government experience
  • Experience with research and/or advocacy in applicable areas of law
