Job Overview:
The Counsel position provides strategic legal advice to the business and various organizational departments and functions. This role involves overseeing trademarks, advertising, and various commercial matters, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and mitigating legal risks. The Counsel collaborates closely with the other members of the legal team to align legal strategies with the company's objectives and provides assistance to leadership on corporate commercial matters, including, but not limited to, contracts, licensing agreements and assignments, and leadership on trademarks and advertising campaigns.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Analyze trademark search results and provide clearance for the use of trademarks globally.
  • Assist with copyright matters.
  • Prosecute and manage a global trademark portfolio for multiple brands.
  • Provide expert legal advice to senior management and various departments on trademarks, advertising, and commercial matters.
  • Collaborate with a team of attorneys and support staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies to protect the company's interests and minimize legal risks.
  • Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Represent the company in negotiations, internally and with external parties.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate significant contracts and agreements, including trademark licenses, marketing, sales, confidentiality, and settlement agreements.
  • Manage the company's global anti-counterfeit efforts.
  • Support and advise the marketing team on advertising campaigns, sweepstakes, influencer and endorser relationships, and other promotions.
  • Provide training and support to the organization on legal and compliance issues.
  • Manage relationships with external legal firms and monitor their performance and costs.
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company and advise management accordingly.

Education and Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • Minimum 4-7 years of legal experience, with experience in a corporate legal department or law firm.
