Senator Ted Cruz seeks a conservative counsel or professional staff member to join the Republican staff of the Senate Commerce Committee. While the portfolio will primarily cover energy policy, it will also touch on fisheries and electric vehicles. Qualified applicants must have experience drafting legislation, interfacing with federal agencies, and the workings of Congress. They must also have significant knowledge about NEPA, One Federal Decision, and permitting/categorical exclusion laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities include developing legislation; conducting oversight of agencies and nominations under the Committee's jurisdiction; preparing hearings; drafting memos and talking points, and generally advising the Ranking Member. Duties also include coordinating and collaborating with other committees and congressional staff, executive branch agencies, industry, and trade associations. Successful candidate will possess exceptional writing skills, have strong attention to detail, an excellent work ethic, and clear and concise communication abilities. Previous Hill or related agency experience is required.
