An Advancing Health Beyond Healthcare Company supports a hybrid workplace model with PulsePoint sites used for collaboration, community, and connection, with the minimum in-office commitment being 1-2 days in the office per week.

The Managing Associate General Counsel is responsible for leading a team responsible for providing comprehensive and strategic enterprise-wide legal counsel supporting the company's intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets. This leader must be highly experienced at providing both legal advice and developing and executing initiatives and projects in response to clients' overall objectives and needs. Must have a proven record of excellence in counseling and advising senior leaders and executives across a highly matrixed organization on intellectual property matters.

How you will make an impact:
Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Accomplishes results through assigned legal staff.
  • Develops assigned staff to ensure their individual effectiveness.
  • Provides guidance and leadership on more complex legal issues in which the analysis of situations and/or facts require an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Serves as a resource for other attorneys and paralegals as well as business clients instructing and advising on technical and tactical issues.
  • Sets objectives for assigned legal team that align with the clients and the company's business strategy.
  • Provides concise and timely briefings to senior level business and upper-level legal management.
  • Manages the staff's workload.
  • Applies knowledge of one or more legal specialties with sound business acumen and knowledge of the business goals and objectives as they relate to the legal matter at hand.
  • Determines overall methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate legal projects.
  • Contributes to overall results of an SBU or CEE unit and/or department.
  • Uses professional legal concepts and principles to contribute to development of company's concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.
  • May possess deep technical knowledge or broader scope of knowledge.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively assess and mitigate risk on all legal initiatives and projects of assigned staff.
  • Reports to upper management any identified business exposure and associated risks as well as mitigation techniques being utilized.
  • Act as intellectual property legal advisor and strategist to An Advancing Health Beyond Healthcare Company and its business leaders across a variety of functional areas.
  • Provide counsel and advice regarding intellectual property in all phases of development and commercialization.
  • Expand and enhance An Advancing Health Beyond Healthcare Company in its capabilities in maximizing the value of its intellectual property.
  • Strategy and leadership in building Elevance Health's intellectual property portfolio
  • Develop policies and practices that drive a proactive, business-focused intellectual property program.
  • Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates the performance of direct reports.

Minimum Requirements:
Requires a JD, current license to practice law and minimum of 9 years specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure including experience in managing a staff, department budget and outside counsel; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experience:
  • Proven record of excellence in counseling and advising senior leaders on intellectual property matters.
  • Experience in significant intellectual property litigation.
  • Experience in international intellectual property matters, including adversarial matters.
  • Experience structuring, negotiating, and drafting documentation for relevant transactions, including licensing, strategic alliances, and various joint venture agreements.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Registration with federal patent and trademark offices
  • Supervisory/management experience specifically focused on building and managing a best-in-class IP legal team.
