Responsibilities:
  • Advising clients on various topics, such as open source software, open source AI, other open technologies, software licensing, and compliance with open source licenses.
  • Collaborating with security and engineering teams to develop efficient software tooling and processes to enable compliant open source use in A Video-Sharing Social Networking Service Company's products at scale.
  • Working with OSPO to faciiliate A Video-Sharing Social Networking Service Company's engagement with the open source community.
  • Implementing policies, procedures and trainings, which are related to open source usage in A Video-Sharing Social Networking Service Company's products, as well as participation in and contribution to open source projects, and ensuring compliance with legal obligations in relation to these activities.
  • Working closely with experts from other legal teams, including product, patent, copyright, privacy, antitrust, and corporate law, to address relevant issues.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (or equivalent international degree) and membership in at least one US state bar.
  • 5+ years of experience providing legal advice, including related to open source, either at a law firm or in-house.
  • 2+ years of experience counseling on intellectual property and contract issues specific to open source, with strong knowledge of open source licenses. Alternatively, 2+ years of experience in product counseling or patent prosecution, whereas open source software is frequently involved.
  • Experience drafting agreements or policies for open source.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational, advocacy, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Able to provide effective guidance to all levels of business, legal, and engineering clients while balancing legal risks with business interests.
  • Demonstrates sound judgement and is capable of managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Highly motivated and self-driven with the ability to quickly learn new legal areas and skills.
  • Comfortable with distributed work environments, collaborating across time zones, different communities, groups, and cultures.
  • Background in computer science, engineering, or relevant technical fields (or equivalent experience).
