About the role:
As Associate Privacy & Security Counsel, you will play a critical role in collaborating with our product and business teams from the initial stages of product development and beyond, ensuring the identification and mitigation of legal risks.

What You'll Do:
  • Report directly to the Lead Privacy & Security Counsel
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding and develop subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws (including U.S. state/federal privacy laws and international privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, BIPA, CUBI, EU AI ACT and other existing and emerging global privacy laws).
  • Independently counsel internal research and product teams on the practical impact of those laws
  • Work closely with product lawyers, researchers and product/engineering teams to provide global privacy-forward advice, design policies/playbooks to maintain compliance with local privacy laws and regulations
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on emerging privacy and security issues, providing insights and recommendations to mitigate risks
  • Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders across A Software Development Company' business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments
  • Develop and conduct role-specific privacy trainings across A Software Development Company
  • Manage internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs
  • Assist in responding to data privacy and security incidents, including breach notification obligations and regulatory inquiries.
  • Stay updated on developments in privacy and security laws and regulations, and assess their potential impact on the company's operations.

What We're Looking For:
  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one US state bar
  • 5+ years of legal experience directly in privacy law, including at a major law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Expert knowledge of the US and international privacy and security laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience advising on international privacy legal risks and mitigations and workstreams
  • Demonstrated business judgment, client counseling skills, an effective work ethic, and sense of curiosity to learn about new technologies and areas of the law
  • Fundamental understanding of SaaS technologies, cloud tech stacks and privacy program implementation with companies such as A Software Development Company
  • Effective analytical, research, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical advice for non-legal stakeholders.
