Key Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, evaluates and manages complex claims including the conducting of investigations, evaluation of liability, and negotiation of settlements. Relying on limited experience and knowledge, this role is responsible for accomplishing the following assistants. These assignments are varied in nature.

Oversee all aspects of the litigation process for high-exposure claims to minimize company risk of loss.
  • Analyze coverage issues, conduct investigations, and evaluate to determine validity of complex claims; may work with outside counsel and effectuate same.
  • Prepare and draft complex legal correspondence to affected parties using mail, fax, or other electronic means. Maintain claim files - both physical and electronic. Update files as needed.
  • May attend court hearings including mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Assign designated claims to outside counsel, including management of the process, compliance with company policy and procedure, and approval of company charges/billing.
  • Negotiate claim settlement but must seek approval or denial for claims outside defined limit.
  • Conduct legal research and other miscellaneous legal matters.
  • May provide guidance to less experienced Claims personnel.
  • Communicate with the insured, brokers, and outside counsel.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree or a related field or the equivalent education and/or experience

Certifications, Licenses, and Designations
Licensed to practice in the state

Experience:
  • 5 Years of relevant legal and/or professional experience in insurance claims
  • Possess and have the ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledgeable of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable areas of the Company's business to proactively respond to changing business environment
  • Intermediate proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)

Travel: Occasional travel (up to 10% of time)
