An American Auto Insurance Company is seeking a highly experienced and team-oriented professional to serve as Senior Counsel I supporting An American Auto Insurance Company's commercial real estate contracts and real estate operations. You will be responsible for drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts that support An American Auto Insurance Company's commercial Real Estate and Facilities Management business, such as leases, purchase and sale agreements, estoppel certificates, vendor agreements, and other commercial transactions involving complex facilities management. You will also provide advice and counsel for An American Auto Insurance Company's real estate operations. You will directly report to the Senior Director, Commercial and Technology Contracts in the Legal Department and be a part of a growing and innovative legal team.

Essential Functions:
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on complex agreements relating to commercial real estate transactions and facilities management and operations agreements.
  • Effectively collaborate cross-functionally with the entire Legal Department and other members of corporate functions including finance, HR, marketing, as necessary.
  • Provide advice and counsel relating to the management and administration of commercial real estate.
  • Provide strategic business and legal advice to cultivate trusted relationships with business stakeholders and other key partners.
  • Manage numerous projects autonomously and under time-sensitive situations with an ability to make sound and quick judgment calls while incorporating the help of subject matter experts or legal leadership as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate customer-centric focus and responsiveness to drive successful business outcomes.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 6-8+ years of commercial real estate experience.
  • J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state (or D.C.) bar.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
  • Experience managing high deal volume on tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Experience advising senior business stakeholders.
  • Sound legal judgment and problem solving skills

Location - Hybrid: This position requires the individual to work onsite 3-4 days per week in our Chevy Chase, MD or New York, NY office.
