Description:

The individual in this role will manage the Professional Liability Complex Claims team. Reporting to the Managing Director of Professional Liability and Cyber Claims, this position will also handle special projects that span the Professional Liability and Cyber Claims department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and provide strategic direction for the handling of complex high exposure claims.
  • Assess and evaluate individual and team performance, provide timely feedback, and develop training needs.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment with empowered team members.
  • Guide strategy in high-pressure complex claims scenarios and make decisive recommendations for the course of action on behalf of the company.
  • Develop and execute strategies focused on improving claim quality and delivering superior customer service.
  • Monitor data and metrics for analyzing claim outcomes and trends.
  • Foster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in company-wide thought groups and initiatives.
  • Prepare white papers, speak on panels, and engage in other thought leadership activities.
  • Enhance team efficiencies through continued improvements in operational excellence.
  • Review and approve reserves, settlements, and payments that exceed Director authority.
  • Participate in senior claims leadership strategy meetings and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Take responsibility for in special projects, including data-centric projects.
  • Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and internal and external partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses, and assessment of resource needs.
  • Ensure that the team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal Claims Quality Performance Objectives.
  • Travel to other claim offices and meetings as required.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience in claims management.
  • 15+ years of insurance coverage or insurance defense experience.
  • Excellent insurance coverage knowledge in professional liability lines of business.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, including the ability to empower a team and a disdain for micromanagement.
  • Desire to adopt a data-minded approach to leading a claims team.
  • Ability to handle complexities of data analysis and to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Advanced writing skills.
