Job Summary:
The Senior Staff Attorney provides strategic design, consultation and management of projects involving large scale discovery and fact development projects including, but not limited to, document collection, review and production with an emphasis on issues associated with electronically stored information. The Senior Staff Attorney uses technological acumen and expertise in major industry tools to perform skilled fact investigations, discovery and trial preparation. The Senior Staff Attorney leads, with decisiveness and judgment regarding strategy and inevitable crises. The Senior Staff Attorney uses a wealth of experience with protocols and workflow for document analysis for responsiveness, privilege and confidentiality designations. The Senior Staff Attorney may be expected to participate on trial teams.

Job Functions:
  • Responsible for large case organization, early case assessment strategy and plan.
  • Create, track and report on cost estimates and case budget.
  • Assist case team with legal hold/preservation issues, the meet & confer process and protective orders.
  • Design and implement document collection and review plan.
  • Design and implement document production planning, including form of production.
  • Lead review and production teams.
  • Design and lead privilege processes, including review, logs and claw backs.
  • Collaborate and assist case team with pleadings, motions and written discovery.
  • Lead deposition and witness preparation support process.
  • Lead fact development and trial preparation support processes.
  • Lead trial support and compliance support teams.
  • Respond to work requests from LPS management on a variety of issues and special projects, including training and professional development, staff performance, prompt and complete timekeeping and program improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Qualifications
  • J.D. degree from a major, accredited law school.
  • Admitted to the CA bar, active and in good standing.
  • Flexibility to work long hours and travel on short notice on behalf of the Firm.
  • A minimum of 10 years of complex litigation experience in a law firm from case inception through trial, or equivalent emphasizing discovery project management.
  • Ability to manage a project team to achieve objectives.
  • Strong organizational, reasoning and research skills, creativity, attention to detail and initiative.
  • Ability to articulate case (project) goals, objectives, deliverables, costs, and deadlines; identify tasks, resources, and schedule needed to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to successfully manage, organize and prioritize multiple projects, using judgment and stakeholder input to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to delegate work and monitor its execution by other independent individuals assigned to the same case or project, over whom no formal authority exists.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of the organization as well as external stakeholders such as vendors and clients.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, composure and leadership in challenging circumstances.
  • High level of expertise in privilege practices and process.
  • High level of expertise in major industry tools such as Relativity.
  • Proficient with fact investigations, knowledge management, and trial preparation tools.
