Description:

The Vice President, Regional Assistant General Counsel will work with business and functional colleagues to provide a broad range of strategic commercial legal advice and support across Workiva, primarily focusing on North America and Latin America. Reporting to our Chief Legal Officer, this position will interface with all levels and functions of the organization and external customers and partners.

What You'll Do:
  • Establish yourself as the leader of the North American commercial legal team
  • Develop, hire, and manage a mix of lawyers and contracts specialists to grow a successful team to support the wider commercial legal group
  • Resolve complex, non-standard agreements, and understand product, data security, and privacy process issues to enhance negotiations
  • Drive key commercial legal initiatives throughout the organization as a strategic business partner to improve efficiency and support the growth of the business.
  • Promptly assimilate Workiva's internal structures, product offerings, technology, security/data protection systems, policies, and standard commercial contracts to enable effective support across all lines of business

What You'll Need:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S./B.A. degree and J.D. degree required
  • Must be a licensed attorney
  • 12+ years experience, including significant experience scaling legal teams in the software as a service (SaaS) industry, and in-house counsel leadership roles, demonstrating increasing complexity, scale, and responsibility.
  • Experience in managing a team of professionals (attorneys or others)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant tech sector or SaaS legal experience focused on commercial transactions, including complex cloud contracts and software technology with a minimum of 12 years experience, including significant experience in-house (preferably at a high-growth technology company)
  • Demonstrable success in recruiting, leading, and managing a mix of junior and senior legal team members
  • Substantial experience drafting and negotiating complex transactions involving partners, security, privacy, and IP issues
  • Solid experience with business processes gained in-house relating to commercial, contract, intellectual property, and data privacy law
