The Assistant General Counsel, Privacy and Cyber Security, will lead Rockwell Automation's Global Privacy Program and provide general legal counsel and support for Rockwell Automation's Cyber Security Program.

The role calls for a trusted advisor who understands Rockwell Automation's strategic initiatives and provides legal support that supports growth, mitigates risk, and assures compliance.

As a subject matter expert on issues related to privacy, cyber and data security, the Assistant General Counsel/General Counsel, Privacy and Cyber Security will be responsible for providing expert legal advice on privacy, data protection and cyber and data security laws and regulations, and for developing and implementing global and local strategies and coordinated action plans to support compliance and risk mitigation in these areas.

The Global Privacy Program covers both employee personal data and customer personal data and involves close collaboration with the Human Resources, Sourcing, Information and Product Security, Sales and Marketing functions.

This role will also provide critical support on these issues as they arise in Rockwell Automation's contracting activities, particularly with key customers, suppliers, technology partners and providers. You will report to VP, Commercial Law. This role will be highly collaborative across multiple functions and business units to support these commercial contracting activities.

This role will work together with Rockwell Automation's Chief Product Security and Chief Information Security officers and support policies to efficiently structure data collection, minimize data exposure, promote a privacy and data-protection mindset, and evaluate risks regarding the use and disclosure of data.

Responsibilities include:
  • Lead and expand Rockwell Automation's Global Privacy Program. Designing and implementing strategies and action plans to increase the maturity of the Global Privacy Program (for example, by selecting new compliance technology solutions, developing tailored trainings, applying privacy by design for new product development, building and implementing processes for systematic privacy risk reviews, etc.)
  • In collaboration with our global legal team, provide proactive legal counsel to all levels of Rockwell Automation regarding privacy, data protection and cyber and data security issues; keeping track of new and evolving privacy, data protection and cyber and data security laws globally and proactively defining required actions for the global program and for local implementation;
  • Serve as legal counsel for Rockwell Automation's Information Security and Product Security groups, understanding and supporting strategic business objectives and acting as a trusted advisor and business partner in achieving these objectives;
  • Participate as legal advisor in product security, information security and privacy compliance and risk reviews, supporting privacy and security design considerations participate as legal advisor in data breach incident responses;
  • Serve as primary escalation resource for the Contracts and Negotiation team on privacy and security issues for our customers and suppliers, especially critical technology suppliers. Create tools and procedures to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of legal support of commercial engagements implicating data security and privacy.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Law degree from an accredited university
  • Admission in good standing to the bar of at least one state in the United States
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of law firm or in-house experience; corporate in-house experience a plus, but not required;
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years management experience
  • Core competency around information and cyber security and privacy laws;
  • Proven skills in drafting and negotiating commercial legal agreements, including specifically in the areas of privacy and cyber security;
  • Sound legal and business judgment; ability to balance risk with legal and business considerations
  • Uncompromising ethics.
