Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Office of Legal Affairs is seeking a lawyer for the position of Associate Counsel to work in a dynamic environment as in-house regulatory and contract counsel. NYC Health + Hospitals Office of Legal Affairs provides legal advice and counsel for NYC Health + Hospitals' eleven acute hospitals, six long-term care facilities, numerous clinics, correctional health services, the COVID-19 Test and Treat program, and the Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers” (“HERRCs”) that provide assistance for arriving asylum seekers.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
The lawyer will be responsible for advising on, negotiating and drafting contracts and agreements with vendors and with government agencies and ensuring that such contracts meet all of the system's legal, internal operating procedure, and operational obligations in collaboration with internal stakeholders and executives. The lawyer will assist in presenting such contracts through executive and board approval committees as required. Other responsibilities include regulatory advising related to the provision of health care and other human services, policy drafting, process development, and project management. The ideal candidate will have experience in all of these areas.

The lawyer may also perform other in-house legal assignments based on the lawyer's interests, experience and the System's needs.

Assisting with other assignments and special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A baccalaureate degree or equivalent, and LLB or JD from an accredited School of Law; and admission to New York State Bar; and
  • Three (3) years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, labor law and employee relations, or
  • Two (2) years of experience and background in the practice of law subsequent to admission to the Bar in matters of litigation, negligence, corporate law, contracts, real estate, labor relations, employment law and employee relations, with two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a professional or managerial capacity in respective fields applicable to the general body of law, specialties or practice.
