An American Fast Food Company's Privacy Team is a global team within the Legal & Compliance Department comprised of lawyers and other professionals located in the US and the EU. In collaboration with other global teams (e.g., Global Cyber Security, Enterprise Data Governance) and McDonald's market legal teams, the Privacy Team develops, operates and manages McDonald's global privacy program and advises on US and global initiatives involving personal data.

This Associate Counsel – Privacy role will be based in Chicago and be responsible for supporting the Privacy Team in the development, implementation, maintenance, oversight and management of McDonald's global privacy program. This junior-level role will also provide support in An American Fast Food Company's management of privacy with applicable legal, regulatory, industry and organizational requirements in relation to global initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a privacy advisor to organizations across the enterprise, providing strategic and legal guidance on privacy issues including personal data access, collection, retention, transfer and use.
  • Assist business clients in complying with internal privacy policies, privacy by design requirements, applicable privacy laws and regulations with a focus on the US, industry standards and best practices.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to provide privacy guidance on designing, implementing and deploying technologies in connection with US and global initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Privacy Team members to (1) maintain, update and enhance An American Fast Food Company's global privacy program and (2) develop and administer privacy training to the enterprise.
  • Advise, support and serve as primary privacy contact for assigned market legal teams in their implementation, execution and compliance of An American Fast Food Company's global privacy program.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments and data protection impact assessments.
  • Review and advise on vendor agreements with respect to privacy provisions.
  • Advise and support other legal teams within the Legal & Compliance Department on general privacy-related questions.
  • Work in partnership with Global Cyber Security and market legal teams, as applicable, in managing responses to privacy-related inquiries and incidents.
  • Build strong working relationships with business teams as well as An American Fast Food Company's local market legal teams and other legal teams within the Legal & Compliance Department.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of privacy and other data-related laws, regulations and standards with a focus on the US.

Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of privacy legal experience within a corporate or law firm environment with a focus on US privacy laws and regulations; experience with GDPR and HIPAA a plus.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence laws and regulations preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of IT environments, information security, data flows, cloud computing, integrated platforms, social technologies, data analytics, artificial intelligence and mobile applications.
  • Works effectively as part of a global geographically dispersed team with global business clients.
  • Driven to work on a wide variety of tasks in a proactive manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Exercises sound business judgement to develop creative business solutions and alternatives to legal challenges.
  • OneTrust privacy management platform experience and knowledge preferred.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one US state bar.
  • IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional/US certification preferred.
