A Social Networking Service Company is seeking a talented and experienced privacy lawyer to join the Reality Labs Privacy Legal team. In this position, the lawyer will cover a broad range of privacy issues to support the products in A Social Networking Service Company's Reality Labs business unit. The privacy issues will be relevant to cutting edge tech in augmented, virtual, and mixed reality, biometrics, and AI.

You will be joining a collaborative team of privacy lawyers who identify, evaluate and address privacy risk in light of privacy laws, compliance obligations and policies; train on privacy matters; and collaborate closely with other legal teams as well as cross-functional privacy partners to deliver legal advice globally. We are looking for a candidate who has a solid and deep understanding of privacy laws and principles, is motivated, collaborates well, and is able to practically weigh and manage risks around privacy with little to no direction.

Associate General Counsel, Reality Labs Privacy Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data use and privacy laws globally and advise on the impact of the same on A Social Networking Service Company's business
  • Evaluate the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions, and other related guidelines on product features, development, and R&D often in spaces where there is no precedent or clear guidance
  • Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with stakeholders across A Social Networking Service Company's legal, business, policy, communications, security, and other departments
  • Develop frameworks around relevant privacy subject areas to provide guidance efficiently to product lawyers and other stakeholders in connection with product development, launches, and R&D
  • Participate in internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs and maintain A Social Networking Service Company's ongoing privacy-by-design processes

Minimum Qualifications:
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
  • 10+ years of legal experience focused on privacy issues, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience
  • Experience advising on privacy legal risks and mitigations, with working knowledge of privacy laws relevant to tech and AI
  • Business judgment and client counseling experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • In-house hands-on experience with privacy counseling, particularly at a technology company and product development
  • Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media, AI, devices and Internet companies
  • Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
