The Position:
A Government Entity is seeking a qualified attorney to perform judicial activities for the Beaverton Municipal Court. The Court is one of the busiest in Oregon, and one of the most technologically advanced. The Court operates a number of programs designed to improve the community, such as a highly-regarded intervention program for repeat Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) offenders. The Court innovates in a number of areas and influences statewide legislation.

This is a full-time, exempt, Management 2 (M2) position. The Associate Judge reports to the Presiding Judge. This position requires working on-call to sign warrants. There is one vacancy.

Responsibilities:
Performs judicial activities of the Municipal Court, ensuring conformance with legal and city requirements. Works under the daily supervision of the Presiding Judge, with extensive latitude for the use of independent judgment in performing assigned duties. Works closely and collaboratively with the Court Administrator regarding court operations.

Responsible for applying relevant Supreme Court Rules, State statutes, city ordinances, and case law when presiding over bench and jury trials, pre-trial conferences, arraignments, motions, and other hearings. The Associate Judge is also responsible for imposing sentences commensurate to the offense and within the parameters allowed by law.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school; and
  • Five years' experience in the area of municipal law and criminal law, and trial experience; or
  • Five years' experience as an administrative hearings officer, arbitrator, or judge; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing and special requirements
  • Active member in good standing with the Oregon State Bar
  • Ability to pass reference checks and education verification, and satisfy the requirements of a background check, including fingerprints.
  • Ability to satisfy the requirements of a pre-employment drug screen, which includes testing for marijuana.
