This is a litigation focused leadership position. You will independently maintain and manage a complex caseload from intake through trial and appeal. Litigation duties include discovery, depositions, trial preparation, trial, and post-trial matters. You will conduct legal research and investigation to provide counsel and advice and draft clear, concise, organized, and accurate legal arguments on behalf of the County.

The attorney in this role will provide key leadership in the coordination and assignment of litigation tasks, providing training and mentorship to other litigators and professional staff in the office, and serve as a liaison to outside counsel and litigation-related vendors.

In this role you will also advise and counsel County Administration and County Management Teams on risk mitigation, legal rights and obligations, ensuring compliance, and supporting the work of County Departments and the communities they serve. The ACC 3 may perform related duties as assigned.

This position is in Eugene, Oregon, and is eligible for hybrid office/telework as allowed by the Administrative Procedures Manual with director approval. The Office of Legal Counsel encourages work/life balance and is committed to professional development, opportunity, and growth for all staff.

About the Department:
The Office of Legal Counsel consists of Legal Services, Risk Management, Public Records Requests and Workers' Compensation.

Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm.
This is a non-represented position.

Qualifications:
Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):
  • A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school. Five years of responsible municipal legal counsel or litigation experience. OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

  • Member of the Oregon State Bar at time of appointment.
