A General Insurance and Life Insurance Solutions Company has an outstanding opportunity for a talented attorney to serve as Corporate Counsel in the Corporate, Transactions and Governance Team of our prestigious Corporate Law department located out of our headquarters in Schaumburg, IL.

The Corporate Counsel will provide legal advice on a variety of HR-related business, legal, and regulatory issues and address corporate policy and compliance issues. Specifically, the candidate will provide advice and counsel to internal business clients on employment-related matters including recruitment, hiring, discipline, terminations, reductions in force, employment issues involving outsourcing, wage/hour, misclassification, investigations, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, drafting of various employment related/benefits contracts, non-competition/ non-solicitation matters, drafting of employment separation agreements, and employee benefits matters (ERISA; executive compensation).

The Corporate Counsel will be asked to assist in handling a wide range of employment matters, responding to legal inquiries from business and human resources personnel at all levels, advise on employment policies and procedures, investigate discrimination claims, manage employment charges and litigation (in conjunction with outside counsel), and provide other legal services as needed, including legal research.

This is a very fast-paced and hands-on position, requiring a high degree of self-motivation and ability to interface with various groups of business stakeholders and leaders.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor and 6 or more years of experience in the Legal area
  • AND
  • Member of the Bar
  • Knowledge of NILS, Lexis or Westlaw

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Title VII, ADA, FMLA, OFCCP, FLSA, NLRA, whistleblower regulations, HIPAA, and state employment laws
  • Experience advising on employee benefits matters, including benefit plan administration
  • Excellent communication skills
  • PC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and Lexis or Westlaw
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Previous in-house experience
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with Office 365 suite of applications
