About the Team:
Our Global Legal team provides key support for all TikTok's innovative initiatives, state-of-the-art products, and integrated platforms servicing our global video market. We help our technological and business teams enable their vision by providing integrated legal guidance and support. The TikTok team is growing fast and is seeking highly experienced, bright and capable legal professionals to join the team. As a subject matter expert team in the Global Legal department, the Global Litigation team handles litigation matters involving TikTok in all the regions in which TikTok operates, including the United States. The following describes the responsibilities and requirements for the role.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the lead eDiscovery attorney and collaborate with the eDiscovery team, litigation teams and other stakeholders to help create cutting-edge solutions, playbooks and develop best practices for eDiscovery in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Apply legal, eDiscovery, data privacy principles and information governance knowledge when partnering with in-house teams and outside counsel on active litigation, regulatory, and investigation matters. Support 26(f) preparation and discovery related negotiations including ESI protocols, review of discovery responses, protective orders, Rule 502(d) orders and preservation agreements.
  • Partner with the lead eDiscovery attorney, the eDiscovery team, and various internal teams on legal issues related to eDiscovery and information governance policies, strategies, and workflows. Advise on internal policies related to the creation, use, retention, and disposition of company information.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on litigation.
  • A combination of experience in private practice and a corporate litigation department in a matrix organization with a highly regarded firm and organization (tech or media, preferred).
  • Strong knowledge and experience with U.S. and Canada legal and regulatory obligations related to litigation, discovery, and information governance is required. Deep subject matter knowledge of current case law related to the preservation, collection, culling, search, review and production of ESI (including currently evolving collaboration and communication systems), legal hold notices, and information governance is also required.
  • Experience with and skilled at learning complex technology quickly and translating highly technical issues into lay terms and persuasive legal arguments.
  • Demonstrated judgment, personal integrity, and inter-personal skills. Strong ability to work as a team player who can effectively collaborate with colleagues from the Global Legal team and business stakeholders.
  • Member in good standing of the New York or California bar association or another bar association with the ability to register as in-house counsel in New York or California.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prefer experience with GDPR and the Stored Communications Act.
  • Document review management, e-discovery, data privacy and information governance.
