The Richmond office of A Law Firm with More than 1,000 Lawyers in 21 Offices Worldwide is seeking an Associate for their Environmental and Mass Tort Litigation.

Environmental & Mass Tort is structured into four key practice groups:
  • Crisis Management & Incident Response (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/services/practices/crisis-management-incident-response, led by partners Brian Jackson (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/people/j/j-brian-jackson) and Adam Sowatzka (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/people/s/adam-g-sowatzka): Lawyers in this practice group employ a multifront incident response strategy to assist clients with all aspects of emergency response including civil and criminal prosecution; shareholder litigation; class actions; insurance disputes; investigations by Congress, regulatory agencies and/or state attorneys general; and reputational/public relations issues.
  • Environmental Enforcement & Regulatory Counseling (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/services/practices/environmental-enforcement), led by partners Dave Franchina (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/people/f/david-a-franchina/), Makram Jaber (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/people/f/david-a-franchina/) and Adam Sowatzka (https://www.mcguirewoods.com/people/s/adam-g-sowatzka/: Lawyers in this practice group counsel clients on regulatory programs for air, water, waste, natural resources and chemicals; defend clients against regulatory enforcement actions; and assist clients in addressing policy issues regarding climate change, environmental justice and emerging contaminants.

Job Requirements:
  • Qualified candidates will have 2 –3 years of experience
  • Status as an active member of the Virginia bar, or status as an active member in good standing of the bar in at least one state, and the ability to become admitted to the Virginia bar.
  • Strong analytical, research, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, the ability to work well under deadlines, and the ability to assume significant client responsibilities.
  • Creative and critical thinking skills.
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with excellent academic credentials and demonstrated top-notch legal research, analysis and writing skills are required.
  • Prior experience in a sophisticated law firm environment and/or judicial clerkship experience are preferred. Current judicial clerks will also be considered.
