Position Overview:
The Company's Legal Department is growing and is looking for an experienced Attorney to join the team. We are looking for a candidate who wants to be a leader and is excellent at overseeing and advising on a variety of legal issues. The Associate Attorney position will primarily support the Property Management team but will occasionally support the Company's other business ventures. This position will interface with all departments of the Company, including the President and the CEO. The job entails a variety of other responsibilities listed below.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the coordination and management of multi-family, residential landlord/tenant litigation, lawsuits filed by tenants against a landlord, fair housing matters and collection matters. This includes supervising outside counsel, interacting with the tenants, and directing litigation in conjunction with the Property Management team.
  • Consults with and advises company leadership concerning the status of pending litigation through periodic reporting or upon significant developments and seeks input/information from management concerning litigation (i.e., settlement authority).
  • Responsible for a portion of the management of mechanic's lien issues and vendor disputes, including interfacing with the construction department, vendors, property management and accounting.
  • Responsible for drafting and reviewing various legal agreements, including vendor service agreements, commercial leases, investor redemption agreements, cell tower and cable agreements, etc.
  • Act as one of the primary liaisons with property management for the following: various issues raised by tenants; tenants that are failing to abide by lease terms; defaulting tenants; issues related to possession of units; and various contract interpretation questions.
  • Responsible for reviewing and advising on the terms of various agreements, including loan documents, regulatory agreements and partnership/operating agreements.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited school.
  • Licensed in Ohio.
  • Five to seven years of experience preferred but will consider candidates with comparable experience.
  • Affordable housing experience to include Section 8 and other programs preferred.
  • Prior in-house experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).

  • Ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize work and adapt to the rapidly changing needs in a client-focused environment.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
