Summary:This is an onsite position located in Champaign, IL
The In-House Legal Counsel is responsible for the management of the contracting process with our multi-family clients, advising senior members of our management team on other corporate legal matters, other projects as needed and assigned by the company.
Duties/Responsibilities:

- Facilitate the acquisition of permits and licenses required for various projects and activities, including but not limited to construction permits, environmental permits, business licenses, and zoning permits.
- Draft, review, and analyze board materials, resolutions, bylaws, and corporate policies to ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
- Attend board meetings, committee meetings, and shareholder meetings as needed to provide legal advice and facilitate effective decision-making processes.
- Negotiating, writing, and executing agreements and contracts on behalf of the company.
- Advising on contract status, legal risks, and legal liabilities associated with corporate transactions.
- Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business.
- Promoting legal, compliance, and risk management best practice throughout the company.
- Communicating with and managing any third-party bodies such as external counsel or auditors.
- Staying up to date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect your business and specific industry.
- Liaising with senior members of staff.
- Working alongside other departments within the company.
- Providing training to the company on legal topics.
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school
- Bar membership in good standing
- Five (5) + years of experience gained in a large law firm and/or in-house with major firm preferred
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with others at all levels of the organization.
- Strong negotiating skills with both legal and financial/commercial issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships within the organization's legal department and across all businesses.
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Strong capacity for leadership.
- Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office products and CRM.
