Description:

The Attorney will support both the legal and risk management functions at the corporate level, including working with the VP Risk Management. The Attorney will oversee and manage toxic torts, auto liability, general liability and workers compensation claims that are handled by Third Party Administrators (TPA) and various insurers. The Insurance Defense Attorney will assist and support insurance renewal process.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide management oversight of toxic tort claims.
  • Provide management oversight of TPA's responsible for AL, GL, and WC
  • Supervise claim file reviews with TPA's, insurers and internal partners.
  • Maintain and/or obtain state adjuster license.
  • Review new notices, ensure claims are assigned to TPA's and counsel review contracts.
  • Assist and support insurance renewal process.
  • Minimum experience of 5 years managing AL, GL, and toxic tort claims
  • Coverage, liability, and damages analysis with a thorough understanding of the litigation process, case, and statutory law
  • Strong litigation management skills
  • Supervisory experience a plus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task

Requirements:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission into the Texas bar association or otherwise qualified to practice as an in-house lawyer in Texas.
  • At least five (5) to seven (7) years of prior corporate in-house, law firm, or insurance carrier experience working with Mass Toxic Tort and Environmental Law
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills with high level of attention to detail and accuracy and strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to lead through collaboration.
  • Willingness to work on matters outside his or her base of prior experience and continue growing as an attorney and business advisor.
  • Ability to utilize Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for reporting/presentations.
