The System has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Counsel, Employment Law, to provide comprehensive legal advice to our growing organization to ensure compliance with applicable employment and health care laws. This position is a high profile growth opportunity with immediate responsibility.

The successful applicant will:
  • Provide practical, executable and accurate employment law advice to management, the HR Center for Excellence and Human Resources business partners on a daily basis and report on key employment issues to stakeholders;
  • Advise on issues related to age, gender, race, and other discrimination and harassment issues;
  • Advise on managing accommodation requests under the ADA and employee leave requests, including family medical and disability leave requests;
  • Advise on issues related to employee benefits, wage and hour law issues, WARN ACT, NJ Pregnancy Act, and other state and federal employment issues as they arise and assign and manage outside counsel as needed;
  • Advise management and Human Resource business partners on termination, severance, and disciplinary issues and draft settlement and separation agreements;
  • Oversee, conduct and advise on investigations of employment-related and other types of complaints, ensuring the claims are addressed promptly, thoroughly and appropriately to assess legal and business risk;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis of complex legal issues with capacity to present to stakeholders regarding the same;
  • Advise on employment related aspects of acquisitions, dispositions and dissolution of businesses;
  • Provide training and education to HR professionals and management to ensure understanding and compliance with applicable laws and regulation;
  • Other duties to support Company s employment law needs.

Job Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from a nationally recognized law school and excellent academic credentials required.
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and eligibility for admission to the New Jersey bar as in-house counsel.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws, rules and regulations.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years experience practicing employment law required.
  • Prior experience in a major law firm or legal department of a large corporate organization with health care law experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated professional, interpersonal, leadership skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience providing outstanding legal services to a range of senior executives.
  • Demonstrated time management skills, work organization and ability to manage many projects at one time.
  • A roll up the sleeves approach.
