In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Provides advice to the relevant business unit(s) on a broad spectrum of environmental-related legal issues using independent analysis and supports Emerson's Facilities and Product global Environmental teams by:
    • Monitoring, analyzing, and communicating the requirements of new and changing environmental and materials & substance restrictions regulations globally under such laws as REACH, ROHS, WEEE, Prop 65, Eco Design, PFAS, TSCA, EPR, Packaging, Plastics, Recycling, Waste, CBAM, and Batteries.
    • Leading and collaborating closely with outside counsel as needed.
    • Developing and providing substantive legal training.
    • Handling governmental, supplier, and customer inquiries and investigations.
    • Providing a legal review of compliance program standards.
    • Developing explanatory compliance guidelines for the various PEC programs.
    • Resolving complex issues that require immediate attention.
  • Assists Emerson's Environmental teams by handling legal matters related to environmental projects, such as contract negotiations with vendors, reviewing and negotiating state consent decrees, addressing legal concerns, and coordinating with external legal advisors as needed.
  • Provides subject matter expertise support for the commercial and supply chain groups with respect to environmental sustainability contract clause negotiation, review Emerson marketing materials with respect to environmental sustainability issues and facilitate responses to subject matter customer inquiries.
  • Keeps business unit(s) management and Law Department management fully advised of all significant developments concerning all material matters in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates sound professional judgment, upholds integrity, and consistently achieves desired outcomes to safeguard and elevate Emerson's image and reputation, in collaboration with the Law Department.
  • May mentor, manage, and train other members of the Emerson Law Department.
  • May directly handle and otherwise lead a regional team of legal professionals, supporting their individual development, project management, and program execution.
  • Supports the Legal team in:
    • Providing legal support with respect to potentially impactful proposed environmental regulations – for example, emerging PFAS EU, federal, state, and local rules.
    • Providing legal support with respect to emerging rules relating to sustainability and other “greening of,” “greening by,” and “greening with” Emerson initiatives.
    • Providing legal review of voluntary and mandatory disclosures related to materials & substance restrictions, carbon, and other sustainability initiatives.
    • Implementing corporate policies throughout all applicable divisions.
    • Strategic projects in different areas (e.g., implementation of various legislation, applicable new directives, and regulations).
    • Collaborates, contributes, and occasionally takes charge of different important projects within the Legal team, as well as other assigned responsibilities.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Law Degree from an accredited law school
  • Relevant years of work experience in a regulatory, environmental, and international field (in-house or private practice) commensurate with the level of the position.
  • Licensed to practice law in the United States.
  • Comfortable working with senior management
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Excellent oral and written English
  • Open to travel to meet business needs.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, practical decision-making, with a strong understanding of business operations, able to assess and navigate risks effectively.
  • Self-motivated and keen on getting involved in and exposed to all kinds of legal matters and business areas.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now and in the future.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience.
