Senior Director, Product CounselWhat you will be doing:
- Partner closely with product and engineering teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept development to go-to-market strategy.
- Leverage your years of substantive legal experience to proactively identify and assess potential legal and global regulatory risks associated with our products and services.
- Develop and implement strategies to address and mitigate legal and compliance risks in our products.
- Build a strong product counseling program and drive cross-functional initiatives across the product development lifecycle.
- Hire and manage a product and privacy team.
- Stay at the forefront of legal developments in privacy, AI, financial services, and global regulations that impact our products and customers, providing thought leadership and strategic guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements related to product development and use, including partnership agreements, supply chain agreements and customer-facing terms.
- Collaborate with external counsel as needed to manage complex matters with a global scope.
- Collaborate with other members of the legal team to achieve our company's goals.
- Contribute to other legal projects as required by the business.
- Provide legal training to team members and business stakeholders.
- A minimum of 10 years of substantive legal experience, with at least 3 years of experience in product counseling, preferably within the in-house legal department of a SaaS company.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience managing a team.
- Demonstrated expertise in data privacy law and regulations, with a strong understanding of emerging technologies.
- Experience working with, and advising on, AI-powered products and services.
- Experience and practical insight into customer-driven development dynamics.
- Familiarity with open source and experience counseling companies on open-source policy and remediation.
- Experience navigating legal and regulatory complexities in global markets.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and navigate complex cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong project management skills and a collaborative and proactive approach, with a passion for innovation and a desire to be a strategic partner.
- A deep understanding of the SaaS industry, its unique legal challenges, and the global regulatory landscape.
- The ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Curiosity and a willingness to tackle new challenges.
