Description:
Under the direction of Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel, the VP, Assistant General Counsel will provide pragmatic legal advice and counsel to Human Resources partners and other corporate departments.Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day counseling on employment matters to Human Resources partners.
- Advise Human Resources and business partners on employee matters such as terminations, restructurings, lay-offs, discipline, leaves of absence and accommodations as well as compliance with applicable federal and state employment statutes.
- Handle administrative matters at federal and state agencies such as the EEOC, or California DFEH or DLSE; oversee outside counsel handling employment litigation.
- Draft and advise on employment related documents such as offer letters, employment agreements, incentive compensation plans, retention agreements, and separation agreements.
- Remain informed and update Human Resources partners on legal, regulatory and other developments in the employment law arena; anticipate their potential impact on the company's operations and strategy; and provide counsel to business and human resources to effectively manage these issues.
- Draft and update Human Resources policies to comply with applicable laws and reflect legal developments.
Requirements:
- JD from a nationally recognized law school and an active bar license.
- Minimum six years of experience focused on employment law, with strong preference for experience in the financial services industry.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects and manage deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to interact well with business executives and provide pragmatic advice that balances business needs and legal risk.
- Combination of both law firm and in-house experience is preferred but open to considering lawyers solely with large law firm experience.
