Basic Function:
This position will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on all aspects of data privacy laws, regulations, and best practices. They will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure LYB's data handling practices comply with applicable laws and regulations while furthering LYB's purpose: creating solutions for everyday sustainable living.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on data privacy matters to various departments within LYB.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company's global data privacy policies and procedures.
  • Conduct data protection impact assessments and advise on data protection risks.
  • Negotiate and draft data privacy contractual provisions in complex agreements with customers and third-party vendors, data processing agreements, data transfer agreements, data protection clauses, and other privacy related agreements.
  • Monitor changes in data privacy laws and regulations, and advise and implement modifications to LYB's global data privacy policies and procedures as needed to ensure compliance.
  • Effectively respond to data-privacy-related inquiries and incidents, including crisis events in coordination with LYB's crisis management team, responding to potential data breaches, and handling data subject requests.
  • Train employees on data privacy best practices and legal requirements.
  • Maintain the Company's privacy management tool, OneTrust, which is used for monitoring and documenting processing activities and conducting ongoing reviews of vendors that handle personal data.

Min. Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited US law school or law degree or equivalent from EU or non-EU jurisdictions.
  • Admission to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
  • At least 4 years of legal experience in data privacy law preferably in private practice and in-house
  • Expert knowledge of data privacy laws, regulations, and practices, professional certification(s) preferred, and thrives in an international working environment.
  • Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication skills, and analytical skills; a substantial part of this role is to review and negotiate contract revisions, document legal advice in legal memoranda, prepare presentations and written training programs, draft and review investigation reports, and draft legal alerts.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and stakeholder management skills.
  • A good understanding of Cyber, IT and Digital challenges and business stakes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and is flexible as the position requires planning for and some domestic and international travel.
  • Experience in public speaking and conducting in-person training with large audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • English, additional European language preferred
  • Experience with OneTrust and Archer systems preferred
